2026 Sakia Gunn Legacy Filmmaker Fellowship
The Newark LGBTQ Film Festival and Express Newark’s Community Media Center partner to provide a filmmaking opportunity and artistic development experience for two emerging LGBTQIA+ filmmakers of the Greater Newark area. Each filmmaker will receive a $7000 production grant to create their short film. In addition to the grant, Express Newark’s Community Media Center will offer professional mentorship, production equipment, and post production resources to support the filmmakers from development through to the completion of their short films.
The fellowship will begin January 12, 2026 and conclude with the premiere of the two short films at the 2026 Newark LGBTQ Film Festival, April 30, 2026 – May 2, 2026.
We invite LGBTQIA+ filmmakers from the Greater Newark area to apply.
