Out on Screen: Priscilla Queen of the Desert + Lecture

June 17 @ 5:30 pm - June 18 @ 6:30 pm

Join the Montclair Public Library and Out Montclair for a special screening and lecture on a historic piece of queer media, Priscilla Queen of the Desert!

About the Film: Three drag queens (one of whom is Trans) travel across the wide and unforgiving Australian Outback in a lavender school bus named Priscilla to perform a sequin-studded show at a popular desert resort. Along the way, they encounter an inhospitable landscape, Aboriginal natives, breathtaking scenery, and a wide variety of fellow countrymen (and women) unprepared for the trio traveling across the “Other Oz.” Drawing heavily on “Camp Culture’ the movie deeply explores the inner terrain of human connections, relationships, and love. The film sparkles with stunning imagery and was the winner of a much-deserved Oscar for Best Costumes.

Tuesday, June 17, 5:30pm: In-person screening of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

Wednesday, June 18, 6:30pm: Join Dr. Alan Amtzis for an online lecture about the film in honor of Pride Month
